Sequel to the classic work 'A Clockwork Orange' Discovered

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

an equilibrium of Anthony Burgess's classic work, A Clockwork Orange, was accidentally found among the writer's old archives.

The Clockwork Condition, the title. The draft was responding to the moral panic caused by the film adaptation of his first novel. It was written a few weeks after the film was released. However, the article was not finished.

there are only about 200 pages that have been typed. Some other pages are still handwritten. It contained a series of philosophical thoughts about the human condition.

The article was abandoned for decades in his house which was also abandoned in Bracciano, Italy. It was only a short time ago when items were cleared and would be sent to the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester, England to be combined with other Burgess works and relics, the manuscript was found.

"The manuscript is not yet finished, but it contains a lot. It gives us more detail about all the thoughts and feelings he has about culture, as a direct result of the film that has come out," said Andrew Biswell who helped the discovery.

Burgess's first book, A Clockwork Orange was adapted by Stanley Kubrick into the film in 1971. The film raised the popularity of his book, but also caused controversy at its release because it was full of violent and sexual content.

That makes the writer accused of supporting violence through his works.

"Burgess really feels herself to be a target," said Biswell, who also works at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation. That feeling is reflected in his new work.

"He is very burdened by the accusation that the film provokes people to do evil things," he said again.

One of Burgess's writings in the sequel to his book states that young people at that time learned about the style of violence, but did not understand violence itself.

His other writings underline the impact of television and mass media that year.

"A man is trapped in a machine world, cannot grow as a human and be himself," he wrote. He also mentioned the birth of The Clockwork Condition was due to feelings of alienation, which was partly caused by the mass media.

"In that context, it is a comment about what happened to him and his life that was turned upside down by the success of the film [adapted from his book]," Biswell said.

The Clockwork Condition was originally intended to be published with around 80 freedom and individual-themed photos. But it is unclear whether it will be published now.
