Identity (2003)
For a long time I actually wanted to discuss the matter of this film, because this film has an interesting twist and this film is often included in the list of recommended ending twist / twist plot films. But it's hard to discuss this film without spoiler warnings, so I suggest if you haven't watched this movie at all to not read further so spoiler alert !! .
Identity tells the story of a group of people who are mysteriously trapped in a motel namely Ed (John Cussack) a driver who used to work as a police officer with Caroline, a former artist who was quite well-known, Larry who worked at the motel, a family namely Timmy, George and Alice who had an accident, Paris who worked as a prostitute, then Lou and Ginny and Rhodes a police officer who was in charge of escorting his prisoner Robert. All of them were trapped in a motel because the road they were going to was flooded, on the other hand a death row inmate Malcolm Rivers who was to be executed the next day underwent a special trial to consider his death sentence because of the discovery of a new fact, Malcolm was accused of carrying out a sadistic murder of the victim - the victim but the psychiatrist turned out to have new evidence that could release Malcolm from the death sentence. Returning to the motel which was currently being terrorized by the mysterious murder of the actress and the escape of prisoners who were being escorted by Rhodes, everything became increasingly out of control as all who were trapped in the motel died one by one with the countdown of the room key that had the number.
What's interesting about identity is that half of the film looks like an ordinary thriller, which in the end will all be answered when the killer shows himself, just be advised because in the early 2000s the film raised mysterious killers quite well-known such as Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer , but when the film is still headed in the direction that predicted Identity shows something different and that is Bliss. The scene of Malcolm being taken to a room is a bit of a block throughout the film, so it appears that the murder that occurred was a flashback especially not showing Malcolm's face reinforce the suspicion that he was in the motel and committed all the murders. Well, because everything looks interesting enough, it turns out that this film still has some surprises that make the audience quite surprised by the reality of the fight club style offered, especially if it is not multiple personalities.
Yes, all the characters trapped in the motel are all Malcolm's personalities, not one or two but all the characters that have different characteristics - that is another Malcolm personality. The main problem is that of all these characters there is the personality of a cold-blooded killer who has committed murder and put Malcolm into a death row but to find out which character is actually a killer is to evaluate and withdraw (eliminate) the character until he reaches the character of the killer and convince Malcolm in order for that personality to disappear and be replaced with other better characters. Therefore, each character killed in the motel is Malcolm's personality that has been lost, until the remaining 2 personalities are thought to be one of them is the killer, Ed. After Ed died (lost), the last character remained in Malcolm's world of mind so he was released from the death penalty because it was proven he had multiple personalities or mental problems, but at the end of the film it was proven what the psychologist had done was a big mistake because of the character or personality the real killer was not with Ed but with Timmy who finally killed the character that had made Malcolm a harmless person that left Timmy the only personality left to Malcolm.
